The stonecutter converts one input block directly into one output piece: one stone block becomes one stair, one block becomes two slabs, and full blocks become chiseled or polished variants without the partial yields of a crafting table.

Crafting stairs on a table spends six blocks for four stairs, wasting material; the stonecutter always trades one for one. For large stone, deepslate, blackstone, or quartz builds, this saves entire shulker boxes of resources.

Workflow and the mason

Drop a stack of blocks in the input slot, pick the output shape from the list, and shift-click the result; the stonecutter remembers your last selection, so batch-converting a build palette takes seconds.

As a job site block it creates mason villagers, who buy clay, stone, and quartz and sell polished blocks, glazed terracotta, and quartz pillars. A mason hall turns a stonecutter into an emerald engine and a building-material shop.
