Use Minecraft Block IDs in Commands

Every Minecraft block ID listed on this page works directly in Java Edition commands. The modern namespaced format (for example minecraft:stone) is the only reliable identifier for current versions. You can use any block ID from the table below in /give, /setblock, and /fill commands:

/give @p minecraft:stone 64

Adds 64 stone blocks to the nearest player's inventory.

/setblock ~ ~ ~ minecraft:oak_planks

Places an oak planks block at your current position.

/fill ~ ~ ~ ~5 ~3 ~5 minecraft:glass

Fills a 6×4×6 area with glass blocks — useful for quick walls, floors, or enclosures.

Block States

Some Minecraft block IDs accept block states in square brackets to control orientation, half-slabs, lit/unlit, and other properties. For example:

/setblock ~ ~ ~ minecraft:oak_stairs[facing=north,half=bottom]
/setblock ~ ~ ~ minecraft:redstone_lamp[lit=true]

When a block state is omitted, the game uses the default state for that block. Check the individual block detail page for the full list of available states.

Open any entry in the Minecraft block IDs table to copy its exact ID, review historical numerical IDs, and generate a ready-to-use command. Use the Give Command Generator to adjust the player target or quantity, the Setblock Command Generator to place a single block at coordinates, or the Fill Command Generator to fill a region with any block ID from this list.

Modern and Historical Minecraft Block IDs

Java Edition moved from numerical IDs to namespaced IDs in 1.13. This page shows a historical number only when a value has been reviewed; otherwise, use the modern ID shown in the table. A missing or pending historical number does not affect the current block ID.

Need a non-block item instead? Search the full Minecraft Item ID list or browse the focused Building Blocks, Natural Blocks, and Decoration Blocks catalogs.

Minecraft Block IDs FAQ

How many Minecraft block IDs are there?

This page lists 933 curated Java Edition block IDs across building blocks, natural blocks, and decoration categories. Each entry includes the modern namespaced ID and, where verified, the historical numerical ID.

Can I use block IDs in /give commands?

Yes. Every block ID on this page is also a valid item ID. Use /give @s minecraft:stone 64 to add blocks to your inventory, or /setblock and /fill to place them in the world.

What is the difference between block IDs and item IDs?

In modern Java Edition (1.13+), most blocks share the same namespaced ID as their item form. Some items (like tools, food, and spawn eggs) are not blocks and only appear in the item ID list.

Do block states change the block ID?

No. Block states (like facing direction or lit/unlit) are appended in square brackets after the ID, for example minecraft:oak_stairs[facing=north]. The base block ID remains the same.
