How to Get Iron Ore
Iron Ore generates in three batches: deep slate layers from Y=-64 to Y=72, a mid-range batch peaking at Y=16, and a mountain batch from Y=80 to Y=384 peaking around Y=232. It requires a stone pickaxe or better and drops 1 raw iron; Fortune I–III raises that to up to 4 raw iron, and Silk Touch drops the ore block for later smelting.
- Dig underground around Y=16, or explore tall mountains where the high batch peaks near Y=232.
- Mine the tan-speckled ore with a stone pickaxe or better—wooden pickaxes break it with no drop.
- Smelt the raw iron drops in a furnace or blast furnace to get iron ingots.
