How to Get Oak Log
Oak Logs drop from the trunks of oak trees, which grow in forests, plains, swamps, and many other Overworld biomes; the wood also appears in plains villages, swamp huts, mineshafts, shipwrecks, and trial chambers. Break the trunk with any tool or bare hands—an axe is fastest—and every log block drops itself.
- Find an oak tree; forests and plains are reliable places to look early in a world.
- Chop the trunk with an axe for the fastest harvest, though any tool or bare hands still drops one Oak Log per block.
- Replant an oak sapling on dirt or grass to grow a replacement tree and keep the supply renewable.
What Is Oak Log Used For?
Oak Planks
Place an Oak Log in any crafting grid to get 4 Oak Planks, the starting ingredient for most wooden recipes.
Charcoal
Smelt an Oak Log in a furnace to produce charcoal for torches and fuel.
Furnace
An Oak Log smelts 1.5 items as fuel; converting it to planks first gives four times the smelting operations.
Crafting Table
Turn the first log into planks, then arrange four planks in a square to unlock 3x3 crafting.
Building and stripping
The bark texture works for log-cabin walls and pillars; use an axe on a placed log to strip it for a smoother brown finish.
