How to Get Birch Log

Birch Logs drop from birch trees, the white-barked trees most common in birch forest biomes; a taller variant generates only in old growth birch forests. Break the trunk with any tool—an axe is fastest—and every log block drops itself.

  1. Head to a birch forest and look for short trees with white bark marked by black patches.
  2. Chop the trunk with an axe or any other tool; standard birches are short enough to harvest without pillaring up.
  3. Replant birch saplings to farm more logs, and visit an old growth birch forest when you want the taller trees.

What Is Birch Log Used For?

Birch Planks

One Birch Log becomes 4 Birch Planks, a pale wood favored for bright, modern-looking interiors.

Charcoal

Smelt a Birch Log in a furnace to make charcoal for torches and smelting.

Furnace

A Birch Log smelts 1.5 items as fuel; crafting it into planks first quadruples the fuel return.

Building and stripping

The white bark makes natural accent columns in bright builds; use an axe on a placed log to strip it for a smooth pale finish.
