Resistance is a beneficial (positive) status effect in Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.
minecraft:resistance
Give Resistance II for 60 seconds (Java Edition 1.13+; duration in seconds, then amplifier where 0 = level I):
Remove the effect from the nearest player:
Resistance reduces most incoming damage by 20 percent per level, and at level V you are effectively immune to everything except the void and starvation.
Survival sources include the Potion of the Turtle Master, brewed from turtle scutes for Resistance III bundled with Slowness, and enchanted golden apples, which grant Resistance along with their other effects. Beacons can provide Resistance I in range.
Turtle Master is the strongest defensive potion in the game: Resistance III cuts 60 percent of damage, and the Slowness is manageable if you fight standing still. Save it for the Wither, the Warden, or hardcore-mode emergencies.
The effect ID for Resistance is minecraft:resistance. Java Edition 1.13+ /effect commands use this namespaced form. On Java 1.12.2 and earlier the numerical ID was 11.
Run /effect give @p minecraft:resistance 60 1 to get Resistance II for 60 seconds. The first number is the duration in seconds; the second is the amplifier (0 = level I, 1 = level II). Remove it with /effect clear @p minecraft:resistance.
Resistance is a beneficial (positive) status effect in Minecraft Java Edition, based on its registry category (beneficial).
Drink a Potion of the Turtle Master brewed from turtle scutes, eat an enchanted golden apple, or stand in range of a beacon set to Resistance. Turtle Master gives Resistance III, the strongest practical version.
Almost. Resistance V reduces damage by 100 percent from most sources, but the void, /kill, and starvation still hurt you. Level V is not available in survival potions; Turtle Master caps at III.
