Minecraft Enchantment IDs FAQ

What is the enchantment ID for Sharpness?

The enchantment ID for Sharpness is minecraft:sharpness. It goes up to level V and applies to weapons. Run /enchant @p minecraft:sharpness 5 while holding a sword or axe to apply it.

How many enchantments are in Minecraft Java 1.21.x?

There are 43 enchantments registered in Java Edition 1.21.x, including the three added in that release: Density, Breach, and Wind Burst for the mace.

Do old numerical enchantment IDs still work?

Only on Java Edition 1.12.2 and earlier, where commands accepted numerical IDs such as 16 for Sharpness. Since 1.13 you must use the namespaced form minecraft:sharpness. The legacy column on this page shows reviewed 1.12.2 values only.

Which enchantments are treasure-only?

Treasure enchantments never appear on the enchanting table: Mending, Frost Walker, Soul Speed, Swift Sneak, Wind Burst, and the two curses (Binding and Vanishing). They are marked with a treasure tag in the list and come from loot chests, fishing, villager trades, or special structures like ancient cities and trial chambers.

How do I get levels above the maximum?

In survival you cannot — the max level column is the survival cap. Commands ignore it: /enchant supports higher levels on some setups, and a /give command with NBT or components can apply any level, such as the famous knockback 255 stick.
