What Sweeping Edge Does
Boosts the sword's sweeping attack so it deals 50%, 66%, and 75% of the sword's damage to nearby mobs at levels I, II, and III.
Effect per Level
I: sweep hits deal 50% damage
II: 66% damage
III: 75% damage to surrounding mobs
Tip: Sweeping Edge III is the mob-farm enchantment: one swing damages every packed mob around the target. Java players only — Bedrock has no sweeping attack.
Using Sweeping Edge Well
On Java Edition, a sword swing at full charge splashes damage onto mobs next to your target. Sweeping Edge raises that splash from a token amount to most of the sword's real damage, which is exactly what crowded mob farms and zombie sieges call for. It does nothing on Bedrock Edition, which has no sweeping mechanic.
Sharpness boosts the main hit; Sweeping Edge boosts only the splash damage to surrounding mobs. For single targets Sweeping Edge adds nothing — for packed farms it is the best third slot after Sharpness and Looting.
Sweeping Edge Version History
Java Edition 1.11.1 (2016): Added as the sword's sweeping-attack enchantment.
Bedrock Edition: Sweeping Edge does not exist in Bedrock Edition — Bedrock has no sweeping attack, so the enchantment is Java-only.
