What Multishot Does

Fires three arrows in a spread for the cost of one, tripling your crossbow's coverage at close range.

Tip: Multishot with firework rockets turns the crossbow into a close-range shotgun. It cannot share a crossbow with Piercing.

Using Multishot Well

Multishot sprays three arrows in a fan — devastating point-blank, wasteful at long range where the spread misses. Only the center arrow can be picked up again, and only one arrow is consumed per shot. Load firework rockets instead of arrows and the spread becomes a triple explosive. Mutually exclusive with Piercing, so decide: spread for crowds, or through-shots for lines and shields.

How to Get Multishot

Enchanting table (crossbow), Librarian villager trades, structure chest loot, and fishing treasure.

Best Combinations

/enchant Command for Multishot

Hold a valid item in your main hand, then run (Java Edition 1.13+; the level is optional and defaults to 1):

/enchant @p minecraft:multishot 1

This example applies the maximum level I. An anvil combines two matching levels only up to this maximum — higher levels exist only through commands.

Or give yourself a Crossbow with Multishot I already applied (Java 1.20.5+ component format):

/give @p minecraft:crossbow[minecraft:enchantments={multishot:1}] 1

Multishot vs Other Enchantments

Multishot vs Piercing

Multishot fans three arrows across an area; Piercing drives one arrow through a line of targets and shields. Mutually exclusive. Close-quarters crowds: Multishot. Shielded players and lines: Piercing.

Multishot vs Quick Charge

Quick Charge shortens the crossbow's reload; Multishot adds arrows per shot. They stack, and Quick Charge III + Multishot is the aggressive close-range crossbow build.

Multishot Version History

  • Java Edition 1.14 (Village & Pillage, April 2019): Added alongside the crossbow.

Bedrock Edition: Multishot works the same in Bedrock Edition, including the Piercing conflict.
