What Respiration Does
Extends underwater breathing by 15 seconds per level — from 15 seconds base to 60 seconds at level III. Helmet slot only.
Effect per Level
I: 30 seconds underwater
II: 45 seconds
III: 60 seconds underwater
Tip: Respiration III + Aqua Affinity on one helmet is the standard ocean monument kit — breathe longer, mine at full speed.
Using Respiration Well
Respiration is the ocean helmet's first half: it stretches the air bar so you can work shipwrecks, ruins, and monuments without constant surfacing. Pair it with Aqua Affinity (mining speed) on the same helmet. It also slightly improves underwater vision and slows drowning damage once the air runs out.
Respiration is air time; Aqua Affinity is mining speed. Different jobs, same helmet, fully compatible — ocean work wants both.
Respiration Version History
Java Edition Beta 1.9 (2011): Added with the original enchanting system.
Bedrock Edition: Respiration works the same in Bedrock Edition, adding 15 seconds of air per level.
