Reduces explosion damage by 8% per level per armor piece — up to 32% per piece at level IV, capped at 80% total. Also reduces explosion knockback.
Effect per Level
I: 8% less explosion damage per piece
II: 16% per piece
III: 24% per piece
IV: 32% per piece
Tip: Blast Protection is the anti-creeper and anti-bed-explosion set. For general use, plain Protection IV still wins because it covers everything.
Using Blast Protection Well
Blast Protection doubles Protection's rate against one damage type: explosions. Creeper ambushes, nether bed mining mishaps, end crystals, TNT — if a specific explosion hazard is your farm's main risk, a dedicated Blast Protection set outperforms Protection. Everywhere else it is dead weight, and it cannot share a piece with Protection or the other specialized protections.
Blast Protection gives 8% per level per piece against explosions only; Protection gives 4% against almost everything. Mutually exclusive per piece — specialized sets for specific farms, Protection for daily wear.
Same 8% specialized formula, different damage type. Explosions vs fire — pick based on what actually kills you. Both lose to plain Protection for general use.
Blast Protection Version History
Java Edition Beta 1.9 (2011): Added with the original enchanting system.
Bedrock Edition: Blast Protection works the same in Bedrock Edition, at 8% per level per piece against explosions.
Blast Protection FAQ
What is the enchantment ID for Blast Protection?

Only against explosions, where it is twice as strong per piece. Against everything else it does nothing, so Protection is the better default.
